Get a Free Cell Phone With No Roaming Charges
When you signup for cellular phone service, one of the questions you will be asked is where do you want to use your phone. This is called a "home service area" or "local coverage area." Both terms basically mean the same thing: it's the coverage area of the plan you select and of your service provider. This area is very important to a cellular phone user. If you are traveling, or outside of your home/local calling area, you will pay "roaming charges" in addition to using your plan's minutes. These roaming charges are not included in your plans minutes and can really add up if you aren't careful and don't know your home calling area.
Select a Cellular Provider That Does Not Charge For Roaming

It all comes down to coverage area. Back in the late 1990's, coverage areas were small, because the leading wireless carries did not have a national network, or coverage was sparce. Today, there are even some wireless carries that have such a large national network that there are no roaming charges whatsoever.
To avoid these roaming charges, it's recommended that you select t-mobile as your provider. T-mobile, formally Voicestream wireless, will not charge for roaming calls on any of their national plans. You may make or receive calls from T-Mobiles free digital roaming coverage area to anywhere in the United States. Perfect for traveling, and of course avoiding those annoying roaming charges.
